An Exhibition of Work by Nicholas Harpur

24th November 2017 – 19th January 2018
In conjunction with the Wexford Arts Centre

The Presentation Centre is proud to present an exhibition of work by photographer, Nicholas Harpur.

Having studied photography at Colaiste Dhulaigh, county Dublin, Nicholas has moved and adapted, living and working in a variety of locations during his career as a photographer and has spent a large amount of time between Enniscorthy, Dublin and most recently, China.

Nicholas has spent time in an assortment of places and has explored a vast range of communities with a hands-on approach. He delves into the lives of the people he meets and makes a great effort to become a part of that community, whether for a short while or long term. Nicholas remains objective and thoughtful in his efforts to document his unique experiences within these communities making himself a part of the life he is portraying. His work evolves from the events that unfold and his choices are influenced by the circumstances he finds himself in.

Through his documentation of people, places, and moments, a world of personalities, routines, and habits are revealed. Touching on prospects and questioning the choices people make in particular, their reasons to stay ‘HERE’. His work invites us into the lives and experiences of others through a careful approach, and although he is very much a part of the situations depicted, Nicholas creates a sense of voyeurism through his documentary style photography.

‘HERE’ will portray a number of situations which have come to pass in Nicholas’ presence using dark room prints hinting at the individuality of the moments.  These moments are fleeting - but familiar – thus creating a sense of welcomeness upon viewing.
Through these snapshots of life we are reminded of the vast differences in norm and the inevitable human condition, along with the lingering question of why ‘HERE’.
