FREE! Adult Art Workshop- Tuesday 19th November 2019 11am - 1pm & 1:30pm - 3:30pm
First Fortnight in partnership with The Presentation Centre present a series of First Fortnight workshops about loneliness and community, facilitated by internationally renowned artist Nicola Anthony. In a low pressure, friendly setting, this 2 hour workshop will involve making a set of square tiles using pens, inks and paper. These tiles will come together to form a larger artwork made collaboratively by the class. No previous experience required, all levels of artistic skill welcome! The workshop will also include a sharing exercise where participants talk about themes they relate to, such as a time where they experienced loneliness to a time where they felt at home and part of a community. The artist will seek participants' permission to write down and include their stories in a new artwork she is creating for exhibition in January as part of First Fortnight Festival 2020. First Fortnight works to create a consistent space in the cultural calendar where citizens can be inspired through arts events and experiences to talk about mental health issues in a non-scripted manner. They utilise unscripted conversation to change people’s perceptions about the ordinary experience of a mental health problem and the less ordinary experience of mental ill health. First Fortnight also runs a Centre for Creative Therapies, offering creative therapy to those suffering from mental ill health at risk of or currently homeless.
Workshops are free but limited places, please register here. Max 15 per session.
