Shane ‘Badman’ Keeling is a multidisciplinary artist who specialises in the making and breaking of ceramic. Keeling is a member of the international collective ‘Boys Don't Cry’, their aim is to bring the issue of men’s mental health into discussion within the creative industry, and show how having a creative outlet can help combat the recent and horrifying upsurge of male suicides. Keeling’s work tackles difficult societal issues facing contemporary Irish culture, such as the aforementioned and current housing crisis. Keeling uses satire in order to make his chosen topics more palatable for the viewer. His work relies heavily on the coupling of humorous illustrations and unapologetic, brazen text in order to convey his message. Community engagement is a key aspect of his practice. He has produced work that exists beyond the barriers of the traditional gallery space aims to work intuitively, ignoring restrictions and embracing primal mark making.
