voyage
an invitation to consider life's journey
with artist & fellow traveller, Deirdre X

2nd November 2018 - 14th December 2018

This exhibition of work was officially opened by  on Saturday 3rd November with a wine reception at 6pm. Two artist talks were held in conjunction with this exhibition, one on the 3rd of December with a local VTOS class and another on the 13th for the general public. Both featured screenings of Deirdre's film in which she narrated her creative process and journey across strange landscapes to get to this moment in time.

'Your path is in the great waters and your way is not known and your footprints are not seen' (Psalm 77v19)
These words inspired St Brendan to build a boat and sail into the summer solstice.

"They struck me as a launch pad or a metaphor for considering the risky voyage I
have undertaken in my life in my fragile boat of my body, on life’s great ocean."

Deirdre has depicted key aspects of St Brendan’s mythical journey hoping these images will resonate with the real everyday  lives of those who look at them. "In this story is dream, vision, making difficult decisions, adventure, risky exploits, facing fear, making mistakes, encountering strange landscapes and unknown challenges, facing disappointment and coming home.
