YELLOWCAKE279 | EMMA HOWE
12TH JANUARY -23RD FEBRUARY 2019
The Presentation Arts Centre is proud to present a body of work by visual artist Emma Howe. This was Howe's first solo exhibition of work in County Wexford. Howe has been a practicing visual artist since graduating from the National College of Art & Design in 2017. Now living and working in Dublin, this body of work is the fruition of many hours dedicated to studio practice outside of Howe’s regular working hours.
Inspired by the use of modern information platforms, Howe’s work is predominantly concerned with the human experience in today’s society and the power of framing and presenting viewpoints, both physical and intellectual. Howe’s interest in how people use and interact with social media apps such as Instagram to present a curated version of their lives and individual
experiences is the base for the work on display in yellowcake279.
The artist addresses and challenges these false ideals presented as ‘facts’ through her work with the traditional art form of painting, she wishes to create a new standard for representing our experience of the world and encourages us to question the information we receive regarding the experiences of others. Presented in this exhibition are works based on various spaces Howe engages with and encounters in her own personal day to day life, transformed through experiments in paint and colour.
