14th september 2018 - 29th october 2018
The Presentation Arts Centre was proud to present a body of work by Wexford born artist Kate Tyrrell. This was Kate's first solo exhibition of work, and was honoured to be presented during the 67th Annual Wexford Opera Festival.
Kate Tyrrell is a self-taught artist working from her studio by the sea at Ballinoulart, which has been her inspiration to create unique pieces of art.
Natural materials found and gathered from our Irish shores have given each piece of Kate's work a distinct personality. The colours and textures resemble the natural world. A collection of seashore treasures which have been pounded and rounded smooth over time by the ocean have been used.
Kate is greatly energized by the sea and its natural beauty and enjoys seaprizing and gathering materials on a daily basis. Kate also uses materials collected and dried from her garden and hedgerows around the area. The same process is used to dry the material as that of the seaweed. The flowers used are gathered on a dry day, pressed and painted their natural colours to prevent fading.
