The Presentation Centre is proud to host a solo exhibition of work by visual artist Caroline Jacobsz.

This is Jacobsz's return to the Presentation Arts Centre, after her first solo exhibition of work in 2016, 'Episodic Memory' Caroline continued to engage with her practice through the medium of textile.

Jacobsz graduated from The National College Of Art and Design, Dublin (2003). Originally from Wexford Caroline has worked as a teacher of art and design in Australia, London and South Africa. While teaching in South Africa Caroline also ran her own set and prop design business Red Slipper Designs. Recent Exhibitions include; Wexford Opera Festival, (annually) Art Action Gallery, Antrim (2017) and Gallery X, Dublin (2016). In 2019 Jacobsz completed a Higher Diploma in Digital Media and Design in Wexford Campus School of Art and Design (IT Carlow). Jacobsz now workes in Creagh College, Gorey since 2016 and currently teaches in Selskar College with both secondary school art students and post leaving certificate students.

Caroline’s new body of work is a continuation of themes explored in 'Episodic Memories' and documents the process of a growing concept. 'Where Do We Begin?'  A celebration of the uniqueness of every human being, life and cell, intertwined in the story of life and memories using materials such as thread, human hair and old bed sheets to tell the story of conception, birth and maturity.

Jacobsz incorporates drawing, mixed media and sculptures of DNA, cells, Seed pods, cells, blossoms and the very journey of existence to ask at what point life begins. Jacobsz Investigates the glory of nature from the moment the seed is released to the full blossoming of life, the bounty that nature provides and how it is so intricately designed and woven together. Driven by the complexity of nature, questioning, is there something more yet in this cycle of rebirth, death? Where do we begin? And is our journey as seed part of some greater plan?

For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Psalm 139:13

Where Do We Begin? will be on display in The Presentation Centre until the 22nd of November 2019.
